I have always felt that if you cross Halo with God of War you would get Gears of War.
It is just an all around fun TPS with oversized bone shattering weapons, gritty levels,
and He-man-like characters. Epic Games and Microsoft Studios definately kept that world alive
with the 3rd installment.
The co-opperative tactical play and simple health meter in all of the Gears of War games make playing much more fun. No need to focus attention on shield levels or running around trying to find health packs. A new strategy for the tactical fighting is being able to tag enimies so your other allies will focus fire upon them. This also works during multiplayer so your friends will see the enemy on their HUD. Swapping weapons and ammo is also new, so no complaining about dying because you ran out of ammo!
The Lambent aka “Glowies” bare a striking resemblance to the Prometheans in Halo 4. They glow with the same colors and blow up when killed. Although the Lambent are more based on fire and molten lava than energy like the Prometheans. However, don’t think you you only have to deal with them. The Locust are still around to get slaughtered by you and your team.
The multiplayer mode is what you would expect. Gain experience points to upgrade character skins and gain access to more weapons. Nothing much to report on that front.
If you read my previous review of Halo 4 you know I don’t like to spoil the surprises of the story when playing the campaign. So again, nothing to report here either.
Overall Gears of War 3 is a great game to just kick back and kick ass. So if you are like me and just love wield chainsaw guns then do yourself a favor and go pick up your own copy to get up to spead before Gears of War: Judgement releases in March 2013.
9 out of 10 MadGlory Stars.
